William Matthews is my pick for favorite new sound of 2011. He is breaking out of the traditional music and worship scene we are used too and every song he covers is like nifty interior decorating making something completely new out of the old. His own songs and sounds are very alive and unlike much of what is out there, he feels fully present whenever he is performing. His voice and music direction choices are going to give him longevity for a great future and I am looking forward to see his presence grow on the music scene.

"William Matthews is an authentic voice among the greatness and excellence of the Bethel worship scene. I love the way William carries joy and hope in his worship countenance and brings a lively, joyful musical presentation. His songwriting is steeped in transformational truths and a clear understanding of the power of great melodies. It has always been my great pleasure to do conferences and schools with William Matthews and I highly recommend his ministry!"

An exertion of such power.
William has now released a fantastic album of his own called Hope's Anthem.
William has brought the joy of the Lord to the world of worship. He has opened up the door to what life was made for- enjoyment with God. William was born and raised in the heart of Detroit, Michigan where he grew up surrounded with a loving family full of gospel music in their souls. His mother directed the church choir and William was constantly surrounded by soul singers and amazing vocalists. Some of his earliest memories were of his mother telling him that he was singing too much. Although, he never took vocal lessons, William found inspiration for singing from artists such Brian McKnight, Boys II Men, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, among many others.
When Will was twelve, his parents accepted a ministry opportunity and moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to pastor a church. During those years, William started writing his heart out.
When he was eighteen, William was baptized in the Holy Spirit. “I knew that I had a heart for the Lord and wanted to pursue him, but felt hindered by a lot of issues in my own life.” Will said, “When that encounter happened, my love for God grew exponentially and I started seeing supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit on a regular basis.”
In January of 2007, he moved to be a part of the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, Missouri. He began to encounter the Lord in surprising ways and it was a very sweet time for him and the Lord. His skills in song writing and prophetically singing increased during this season. He served underneath the leadership team and worship leaders such as Justin Rizzo, Misty Edwards, Cory Asbury, Julie Meyer, Matt Gilman, and other inspiring artists.
Later in 2007, William traveled to Redding, California to meet Brian and Jenn Johnson and the leadership team at Bethel Church. He fell in love with the worship that was coming out of Bethel and found that the hearts of the people there were he was engaged in worship where the worship leaders just guided the church meetings instead of initiating them.
In 2009, William moved to Redding, California, to join Bethel Church where he currently lives now. He is worship leading at Bethel Church and says that it is his dream come true. “I am very passionate about what I get to do week after week at Bethel Church. We have an amazing team of musicians, worshipers, intercessors, and leaders who pour it out week after week,” says William, “God is also sending us many musicians and singers who are coming here to Redding to be trained and equipped in worship and the supernatural. And not only do we get to minister locally to our church here in Redding, but we get to impact nations with the good news of the kingdom.”
William recorded two original songs on the “Be Lifted High” album and released his first album in July of 2011.
“I am extremely passionate about a billion soul harvest. I want to see the beauty of Jesus unveiled to all the nations. I believe in an outpouring of the Spirit, greater than what Joel prophesied. An outpouring, where ALL FLESH moves in dreams and visions, miracles, and prophecy. Where all of creation sings the song of redemption and becomes the man or woman they were created to be. He longs for all mankind to attain this knowledge, and anything less that to me, is not his heart.”
